September 6th - Sam Holloway - Starcast Performing ArtsWe have a new school opening in Romsey on the 16th September and only 14 enrolled so far - fingers crossed we have some more for that one, there is never much atmosphere when the classes are small September 5th - Sam Holloway - Starcast Performing ArtsStarted looking for costumes for the Carnival - thinking of doing a Wizard of Oz theme that way we can have as many munchkins as we like in the parade! Need some ideas on how to blast the music around a 3 mile parade though!
September 4th - Sam Holloway - Starcast Performing ArtsJust confirmed we can be in the Salisbury Carnival!! It may not sound exciting to you but it big shakes in Sunny Salisbury! The students will be thrilled...now what should we do? What costumes should we wear? How I am going to make it a safe evening for the students? How I am going to blast our music out? Oh here we go again!!!
September 3rd - Sam Holloway - Starcast Performing ArtsWe have four new teachers starting this term as my main singing teacher is having a baby in October, this is always a bit stressful as they need to get to know the way we work and all the students. I also find students can give new teachers a bit of a hard time at first! Poor things! The teachers not the children!
We have two male singing teachers starting this term which will be great for my classes with lots of boys in. I have started looking at material for this term. We are doing a "Musical Theatre" term so I am thinking of "Oliver" for the Juniors and "Fame" for the Seniors and "Burlesque" for the Youth Ensemble. We are also having a "Blood Brother's" Workshop with West End Workshops so we will work on songs and scenes from that
September 2nd - Sam Holloway - Starcast Performing ArtsStarted going through the registers, e mailing teachers and contacting venues today - the wheels have started turning ready for a busy term at Starcast
September 1st - Sam Holloway - Starcast Performing ArtsEvery year at this time I feel I have come to the end of an era with my own kids going to new schools or classes and new students joining Starcast and some leaving.
I always worry that I ll go back to my schools and everyone will have left!!! But every year we increase in numbers and the students are really excited to be back so I usually leave the first day of term feeling good!
It is hard getting back into the swing of it all after
July 31st - Louise Onslow - The Petite School Of DancingWell here goes my last Blog. This poem is what I used to start the second half of my show with. I placed photographs on a powerpoint to go along side the words. Not only did I have everyone including my senior dancers in tears, but also most of the audience !! "Eyes Upon A Dance Teacher" There are little eyes upon you You're the little girl's idol There's a wide eyed little girl July 30th - Louise Onslow - The Petite School Of DancingQuote for today: "You will only get out of a dance class what you bring to it, learn by practice!" July 29th - Louise Onslow - The Petite School Of DancingWell almost at the end of my month ! I will admit that I am not very good at writing things down, its hard to explain what its like to be a dance teacher. All i know is that at the age of 11 I had my first hint of teaching when helping out my principal. Ever since then I have always dreamed about teaching, never wanted to do anything else. Its the happiness on the childrens faces when they achieve something that is down to your help and praise, and times like exam sessions when the children come out with flying results!!! Its all worth it every day ! July 28th - Louise Onslow - The Petite School Of DancingQuote for today: ''Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion'' |
